The other awesome improvement is my MPG has improved by 3 miles per gallon!Although it's one of the older sedans in its class, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class continues to epitomize the modern midsize luxury car with its sophisticated technology, elegant furnishings and wide selection of engines and features.
The Mercedes-Benz E-Class lineup is so extensive that it could almost be its own brand. With four body styles sedan, wagon, coupe and convertible ; countless feature combinations; and no fewer than five engines ranging from a fuel-sipping diesel four-cylinder to a fuel-swilling twin-turbo V8 ; this midsize Mercedes would have no trouble filling a showroom by itself.
Pleasingly, there is also a consistent level of excellence despite the car's dizzying diversity.E550 Biturbo deleted resonators and mufflers.
There are certainly newer rivals on the market, but the Benz continues to appeal with its tasteful styling and remarkably broad skill set. The Mercedes-Benz E-Class is available in four body styles.
If you're up on the news, you'll know that an all-new E-Class is on the horizon. But there are still good reasons to give the E-Class a chance. For one thing, there's the old bit of wisdom that cars at the end of their production cycles are more reliable, as the engineers have had time to "work out the kinks.
Also familiar is the controlled yet supremely supple ride, which only falters in the AMG S trims with their unyielding performance suspensions. Moreover, the E-Class offers world-class engines in every body style, and its safety technologies are second to none.
The simple fact is that this Mercedes is one of the best all-around cars in the world, and that will continue to be the case regardless of how its replacement turns out. It's hard to imagine feeling disappointed from behind this Benz's wheel. Although none of them can match the variety that Mercedes offers, the Audi and Lexus are more athletic, while the BMW can match the E-Class for curbside appeal.
There's also the brand-new Jaguar XF with its slinky styling and spirited performance. Nonetheless, we'd be hard-pressed to say there's any midsize luxury car on the market that's out-and-out better than the Benz. It's not to be missed if you're shopping in this segment.
The Mercedes-Benz E-Class is available as a midsize sedan, coupe, convertible Cabriolet or wagon. Each body style offers various trim levels that correspond to the engine: diesel E Bluetec sedan onlyV6 E sedan and wagonturbocharged V6 E all but wagonV8 E coupe and convertible and turbocharged V8-powered E 63 AMG S sedan and wagon only.
The E and E sedans are split into two basic types: Luxury and Sport. Luxury models come with inch alloy wheels and a traditional grille with a separate hood ornament, while Sport models feature different wheels, a two-bar grille with an integrated three-pointed star and a sport-tuned suspension.
Inside, the Sport boasts aluminum pedals, subtle white-faced gauges and a three-spoke steering wheel in place of the Luxury's four-spoke design. The E wagon is also offered in Luxury or Sport form, and it includes a power liftgate, a rearview camera and a rear-facing third-row seat. The E sedan comes only in Sport form and adds inch wheels, keyless entry and ignition, leather upholstery and both the Premium and Lane Tracking packages detailed below. The E coupe and convertible come standard with most of the E Sport sedan's accoutrements, and they add LED headlights non-adaptivea panoramic sunroof and heated leather sport seats to the mix.
The E coupes and convertibles also have adjustable suspension dampers to go with their standard inch wheels. All convertibles receive a power-folding soft top, a rear center pass-through and a pop-up air deflector. Numerous packages can be specified on the E-Class if they aren't already standard.
The Premium package adds a rearview camera standard on wagonpower-folding mirrors, heated front seats standard on coupe and convertiblesplit-folding rear seats sedan onlyCOMAND with navigation, voice controls, satellite radio, a speaker Harman Kardon surround-sound audio system and a power rear window sunshade except on the convertible, which gets the AirScarf neck-warming system instead.
The Lighting package sedan and wagon only features adaptive LED headlights and automatic high-beam headlight control, while the Keyless Go package tacks on keyless entry and ignition, a power trunk lid sedan only and, for the sedan and wagon, a hands-free feature that either opens or closes the trunk or liftgate when you wave your foot under the rear bumper. No equivocating is necessary.
Neither as starchy as the S-class nor as sassy as a CLAthe E-class oozes Benz-ish qualities such as unquestioned solidity, a hushed and well-appointed cabin, civil ride motions, and ample propulsion. Actually, make that more-than-ample propulsion when it comes to the well-endowed E You hardly notice the turbos. They spool up without delay and propel the big Benz on a considerable wave of torque. The car gathers speed easily, imperceptibly. And the power is sufficient to push the Benz well into triple digits from rest in the quarter-mile.
Distronic Plus is one gadget among a suite of standard and optional electronic driving aids and safety systems available on everything from the S-class to, soon, the all-new C-class. Although the system does permit semiautonomous driving to follow traffic flow up to a claimed speed of 37 mph, it messes with the electric steering feel just enough to cause unpredictable responses to driver inputs.
Sometimes small inputs are met with large corrections; other times, the opposite occurs. Beyond that hiccup, though, Distronic Plus is a great driving aid and ankle- and leg-cramp reducer on long slogs. Stopping distances were nothing to quibble about.
All Es are configured as Sport models, identifiable by the wide-mouth, two-bar grille with the big three-pointed star.
The ride height is reduced versus that of other Es by 0. Our test car had stroke-dependent shocks, which perform a Mercedes-appropriate damping bleed-off over minor road undulations but firm up for bigger impacts involving more wheel travel.
Mercedes fits 4MATIC all-wheel drive to all Es, a confidence builder for snow-country drivers as long as they remember to replace the summer tires with all-seasons—or, even better, winter rubber—when the white stuff flies. Today's Top Stories. For a considerable number of years, Mercedes-Benz fashioned a coupe variant off a short-wheelbase version of its E-class sedan. That was until the late s, when the E-class coupe model name disappeared in favor of the CLKwhich was based on the C-class sedan.
Inthe E-class coupe moniker was launched again, but technologically, it was a direct successor of the CLK, with its track and wheelbase remaining identical to those of the C-class. Forthe E-class coupe and the open-top cabriolet have received face lifts; the sportiest variation, which we drove extensively, is the E coupe with its hp twin-turbo V The changes for are more involved than they look.
The overall shape remains untouched, but the headlamps and the taillamps—as well as the front and rear fascias—have been updated. The front air intakes are aggressively styled, particularly on the E, which comes with obligatory AMG styling. On the pre-face-lift model, there was a practical reason for this: The large air intakes of the AMG package were required to meet the airflow requirements of the twin-turbocharged engine.
This look certainly fits the rather menacing growl of the M engine, which pumps lb-ft of torque from a low rpm and horsepower at rpm. The 4. Passing maneuvers are executed effortlessly, the only challenge being to keep the car below triple-digit speeds.
The top speed on U. Official EPA fuel-economy estimates for U. However, in Europe, the E is rated at a highly optimistic 26 mpg. We averaged an indicated 18 mpg on a test drive that included a few brief explorations of the more generous mph top-speed governor fitted to European-market models. The E is a good long-distance cruiser.

Despite its relatively trim size, though, it lacks sports-car moves on twisty roads. Despite the twin-turbo V-8 under the hood, no one should be under the impression that this is an AMG in disguise. Few changes have been made to the interior. The most obvious one is moving the gear selector from the center console to the steering column, which is yet another indication that this is no sports car.User Name.

On the surface they have many similarities as they both have two turbos, direct injection, a 90 degree configuration with four valves per cylinder, and both go into their respective manufacturers mid-level models such as the Mercedes E and BMW i which are just below the AMG and M offerings.

While I wasn't able to go visit the dealership, they were quite helpful and friendly. I'm still planning on visiting them probably next weekend. Representative was rude and not willing to negotiate. Wish I could give zero stars. They were nice and responsive, although they followed up 6 times or so to ask me if I was satisfied after already communicating that.
It was fine just a little excessive. The car was unlisted in price at the time and overpriced in my opinion, and since then the price appears to have dropped to more reasonable levels.
